NEW! Gary Jobson’s Recap of the 34th America’s Cup—An Inside Look at What it Took to Win

Gary Jobson, President of the National Sailing Hall of Fame, posted a series of notes on the America's Cup, beginning with his thoughts during the Louis Vuitton Cup and after each race day until the winner of the 34th America's Cup was determined. Gary will present his America’s Cup recap, an insider's view, with racing insights and his expert commentary at this year's show. Look for Gary's presentations on the seminar schedule Friday & Saturday, January 24 & 25.
 
Also be sure to check out the educational videos he has posted showcasing the science behind 34th America's Cup. You can watch all of the videos by visiting the "Science of the 34th America's Cup" page, or by going to NSHOF's Online Film Library. The Film Library now includes a two-part report by Walter Cronkite on the 1987 America's Cup, when NSHOF Hall of Famer Dennis Conner reclaimed the Cup from Australia.

NEW! US Sailing Launches 4-hour Coastal Safety at Sea Course

Saturday Jan 25, 8am-12pm - Room 327
In support of coastal races and cruising, US Sailing now offers Coastal Safety at Sea Seminars. The new half-day seminars for skippers and crewmembers who participants in coastal or nearshore races, will help them understand the latest safety practices and ensure thay are familiar with the gear necessary to be safe. The curriculum is derived from the one-day and two-day seminars offered by US Sailing and will be moderated by the same instructors.
 
Topics may include;
1.      Emergency Communications Equipment and Techniques
2.      Personal Safety Gear (life jackets, harnesses, tethers, and personal electronics)
3.      Crew Overboard prevention and recovery
4.      Search and Rescue procedures
 
Topics will be determined by local instructors based local waters and needs. 
 
Cost $65.00 
One (2) day admission ticket to the show included with the price of the seminar.
Speakers: Moderated by Brian Adams and John Rousmaniere.

Not Ready for the Water? Try the Sailing Simulator and take a free sailing lesson without getting wet.

Get a feel for the water without leaving the show on a virtual sailboat ride. Certified ASA instructors will be on hand to offer you a free sailing lesson and the chance to experience how a small boat reacts to the wind and waves right on the show floor.

Designed and built by a nuclear physicist, the Sailing Simulator recreates the actual movement of a boat under sail and mimicks the waves with wind in the sail. It’s a unique training platform for sailors of all abilities—whether you’re a new boater who wants to learn how to sail or an experienced sailor who wants to practice under different sailing conditions. Stop by and see for yourself how it really feels to sail—without leaving dry land!

One Day Marine Meteorology Weather Course
Lee Chesneau, Senior Marine Meteorologist, formerly with NOAA/NWS's Ocean Prediction Center, and now owner of Lee Chesneau's Marine Weather, will provide a challenging full day weather course as a follow up to his daily hour long seminars.
